Winthrop Athletics recently recognized 165 student-athletes for achieving Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll status with at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 2015-16 academic year.
Winthrop placed 165 out of 270 student-athletes on the prestigious list, including 40 athletes who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for either the fall or spring semesters with 11 of those earning a 4.0 for the entire year.
The 11 Winthrop student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 for both semesters include: Mattison Pike (baseball), Jordyn Elliott (lacrosse), Zoe Conover, Jessica Logan and Lauren Watts (women’s soccer), Lacy Adams and Blake Wallert (softball), Tristan Langley, Emily Sparrow and Victoria Burdette (women’s cross country and track), and Kelly Scott (volleyball).
Winthrop ranked third on the Presidential Honor Roll last year among the 11 Big South schools with 61.11 percent of its 270 student-athletes having at least a 3.0 GPA — one of five league members to have at least 60 percent on the list.
In addition to stellar academic performances, Winthrop’s student-athletes also give back to the surrounding communities through various service projects. Winthrop has been awarded the Kallander Cup four times by the Big South Conference for the community service work performed by its student-athletes.
