Wake up on the Sunny Side
While traveling to Blowing Rock, NC last week, we were able to try out a few good restaurants. One of them was Sunny Rock Eggs and Things. As a Southerner, we love our breakfast. We love things like grits, eggs, and bacon. What happens when you combine all those into one meal is sort of an awesome experience.
I passed by this restaurant while visiting last year and told myself then that I had to try it. Sometimes you just get a feeling a place is going to be great when you drive by. Sunny Rock was one of those places. It is located right beside Foggy Rock, a sister restaurant to Sunny Rock. They have the same owners and even share a parking lot. The wait is long but most places that are great have a long wait. One tip that I have found to be true while traveling is to get out before 8:00 AM to eat breakfast. Most people on vacation like to sleep in and 8:00 AM seems to be the perfect time to get into a breakfast location without much wait.
Sunny Rock was an awesome restaurant. The atmosphere was that of a tight-knit family. The waitress/waiters were all very nice and prompt. The owner even stopped by to speak. The food was real, really good. I ordered a dish called Hunger Pains. It was an egg omelet with cheese, bacon, and tomatoes all rolled up. It came with a side of grits. There you have it, I got my eggs, grits, and bacon! The best part to me was the coffee. I go to a lot of restaurants where they seem to make the coffee really weak to stretch it out. This was right on point.
Stop by next time you are you in the high country of Blowing Rock, NC and give Sunny Rock a try. You will not regret it. Also, watch our video below to get a full review of the restaurant.
