Next week, Clemson University will represent the state of South Carolina in the college football national championship game for the second consecutive year. As we recognize the Tigers for their sparkling 27-2 record over the last two seasons, it’s important to remember that the state’s economic development team is also playing for — and winning — championships.
For the last several years, South Carolina has led the nation in several important categories. The Palmetto State has been second to none in the production and export of tires, as well as the export of completed passenger vehicles, lawn mowers and ball and roller bearings. We’ve also been a leader in foreign direct investment, ranking first in jobs recruited through foreign investment, on a per capita basis, in three of the last five years.
As we embark on a new year it’s clear that, for Team South Carolina, there’s more work to be done. Only by continuing to collaborate can we lay the groundwork for even more economic success, ensuring a future filled with countless championships and unprecedented prosperity.
