CofC Student Business Project Seeks to Help S.C. Companies

The College of Charleston School of Business is seeking five to seven motivated South Carolina-based businesses that are considering importing or exporting goods to participate in a semester-long, faculty-supervised project.

The effort, called the Global Trade HelpDesk, is lead by School of Business students who seek to help S.C.-based businesses interested in doing business overseas initiate and execute the exporting or importing process.

The project, supported by the Global Business Resource Center at the College’s School of Business, requires students to conduct research to produce firm economic opportunity assessments for the companies, including regulatory issues, social and cultural considerations, logistics, and strategic positioning for the global market in question.

“This project allows students to apply what they learn in the classroom about global commerce and support local companies that are interested in importing or exporting. It’s truly a win-win-win,” says David Desplaces, associate professor of management and entrepreneurship and leader of the Global Trade HelpDesk initiative.

This consulting-driven initiative is free to companies and will span over two months. Companies should contact Displaces at desplacesd@cofc.edu by Jan. 3, 2017, for consideration.
